Hi Friends! Today, we have a guest blogger: Melissa Wilimas, Executive Director of American Heart Association, San Diego Division.
On behalf of the American Heart Association, I’d like to invite you to start a new life resolution.
No matter what day it is, it’s never too late for all of us to make better choices for health. Even if you start with only one small change today and another next week or next month –it all counts.
Maybe you’re confused or tired of trying to sort out all of the health advice you get. Do this today. Don’t eat that tomorrow. The choices are plenty and the confusion can cause anyone to just want to give up.
This is why we created Life’s Simple Seven. Thanks to the science and research volunteers of the American Heart Association, we have created a simple way for you to know where you stand on the road to good health through seven steps all of us need to live healthy.
The seven steps are: 1) stop smoking; 2) maintain a healthy weight; 3) engage in physical activity; 4) eat a healthy diet; 5) manage your blood pressure; 6) take charge of your cholesterol; and 7) keep your blood sugar, or glucose, at healthy levels.
To find out where you stand with Life’s Simple Seven, just take our assessment by visiting . In a few minutes, you will know how you’re doing with each one; you will also get your own personal heart score and life plan.
Remember, you can stop heart disease before it even starts. Start small. And keep it simple.
Make one change today and then you’re ready to make another. Before you know it you’ve stopped making poor choices, and started making life choices!
At the American Heart Association, we know that cardiovascular diseases including stroke impact far more people than just those who suffer from these diseases. As the No. 1 killer in the U.S. and even the world, cardiovascular diseases impact millions of families, friends and loved ones. Embracing a healthier life is one of the best gifts we can give to ourselves and those we love. We want to help you and millions of others make these lifestyle shifts become the “new normal.” We are partnering with you, to build a healthier, stronger legacy one heart at a time. So join me and make a new life resolution: Let’s all take the simple seven to heart.
